Punc
Seriously unserious. That is punc, born by coincidence through a late-night gig in Basel where they all instantly clicked. The Basel-based quartet plays jazz that’s spontaneous, raw, and full of life. Their music thrives on interaction, risk-taking, and a shared sense of playfulness.
The band features two saxophones, bass, and drums. Without a harmonic instrument, tonal and rhythmic frameworks remain open.Accompanying structures are invented spontaneously, a process of real-time composition shared by all members. Inspired by Ornette Coleman, Thelonious Monk, Steve Lehman, Kneebody, and the Mark Turner Quartet, punc turns influence into storytelling. Each piece is a small story from the lives of the four musicians in Basel, newly discovered through the band’s collective playing.
