Live Electronics Workshop
CreaTeME International is a project within the nationally awarded Centre of Excellence in the Creative Use of Technologies in Music Education at the Department of Popular Music, Faculty of Arts, University of Agder, Norway. Our workshops and seminars focus on live sampling and live remixing, integrating electronic elements with any music genre. The aim is to shape the musicians of the future while fostering mutual knowledge transfer and exchange between institutions.
The concept further includes stand-alone concerts that expand the live sampling and remix format, featuring internationally acclaimed artists. For the Southeast Asia tour 2026 (Feb 25th Apr 8th), these are:
Jan Bang – Professor and Artistic Director. A pioneer of live sampling and a central figure in developing live remix in an ensemble format. He is also Co-Artistic Director of the PUNKT Festival and a collaborator with Brian Eno, Sidsel Endresen, Hamid Drake, and the late Jon Hassell.
Eivind Aarset – Norwegian Artist, composer and guitarist known for merging electronic textures into immersive soundscapes. His innovative approach transforms the guitar into a tool for sonic exploration beyond genre boundaries. Project Leader for CreaTeME International is Associate Professor Ingolv Haaland. Two Norwegian electronic music students will participate in the workshops and concerts as well as students from the local workshops.
Hamid Drake – By the close of the 1990s, Hamid Drake was widely regarded as one of the best percussionists in jazz and improvised music. Incorporating Afro-Cuban, Indian, and African percussion instruments and influence, in addition to using the standard trap set, Drake has collaborated extensively with top free jazz improvisers. Drake has worked with trumpeter Don Cherry, pianist Herbie Hancock, saxophonists Pharoah Sanders, Fred Anderson, Archie Shepp and David Murray, and bassists Reggie Workman and William Parker (in many lineups).
